This informal workshop presents initial research results from UCSB’s year-long interdisciplinary graduate seminar “The Politics of Race and Language in Learning Contexts” in 2013-14. The ongoing collaboration brings together faculty from Chicana and Chicano Studies, Education, and Linguistics as well as graduate students from numerous disciplines. The research presentations focus on race, language, education, and power through the lens of the multi-sited UCSB-based academic outreach and sociolinguistic justice program SKILLS (School Kids Investigating Language in Life and Society). For more information about SKILLS, visit: http://www.skills.ucsb.edu

This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is requested by Wednesday, October 15. To register, email your name and affiliation to Mary Bucholtz (bucholtz@linguistics.ucsb.edu).
